Follow the Bride: Save the Date Inspiration

Today, I’m excited to introduce you to one of the most inspiring engaged couples out there, JJ and Nando. You know the people who make web pages filled with sappy descriptions of the day they met and the proposal and link to a million ring shots and make out session pics? Well, JJ and Nando are quite the opposite of those people.

And here’s the proof:
When it came time to create their Save the Dates, Nando took the lead. He’s a journalist and had recently covered the famous comic book convention, Comic-Con. While there, he met several established artists, like Jim Webb—as in Jim Webb of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle fame—and learned that it was not at all unusual for people to commission their own comic. So, the couple asked the famed artist to design a post card that incorporated their favorite crime fighters and super heroes putting their powers to work to (literally) save the date.

(From left to right) James Bond Jr. (JJ's fav childhood cartoon), Raphael, Superman and
two Ninja Turtles in love help JJ and Nando save the date of their upcoming wedding.

Clearly not everyone has access to a talented comic book artist, but that doesn't mean you're stuck sending out boring save the dates. I think customizing your stationary is worth the extra cost because it lets guests really see your personality and gets them excited about your wedding.

What's the best Save the Date idea you've come across in your wedding planning? Maybe it was your own. What did you mail out to your friends and family before the big day?
